And the winner is...
Randy Thom

This page is a small "tribute" to Mr Randy Thom, the man who inspired me to become a sound engineer, when I was 15... I saw "Forrest Gump", and, for the first time in my life, I thought, that's what I wanna do...
(now, enough about me ;-)

Last week I saw "Ratatouille" for the 2nd time...

wow...

Mr Randy Thom, I just want to thank you !

The first time I saw Ratatouille in theater I remember that I laughed & liked it very much but I just did not remember how good the sound design was...

I knew he was a giant, some kind of living god for the sound designer community. He has won 2 Oscars, 6 wins & 28 nominations as sound designer, sound effects editor, sound mixer, post-production sound recordist...

So I decided to look at his bio, for I wanted to have a quick look on his career.
I did not know, it would take me weeks just to watch all the movies he has been nominated for an award...

Just to name a few, Mr Thom is somewhere behind all these great movies :

Apocalypse Now (1979)
Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983)
Never Cry Wolf (1983)
The Right Stuff (1983)
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984)
Ewoks: The Battle for Endor (1985)
Tucker: The Man and His Dream (1988)

Randy Thom on his work on "Scarface 2006".

You can also read a few interviews on the mixonline magazine :

About "The Incredibles".

How he managed with only wind and water on "Cast Away".

About the sound design of " Harry Potter : The Chamber Of Secrets".

You could also take time to read an excellent article he wrote for FilmSound.org here.

I'll put some more in the future to keep this page up to date.

Special note to Mr Randy Thom :

Dear Mr Randy Thom, if you come on this page I just want to thank you again for the passion you gave me. Your job is always inspiring to me, and I hope someday we can meet each other.
